On October 9th, 2024, a consultative workshop was held in Mekelle, Tigray, with key stakeholders from the Ministry of Health, Tigray Regional Health Bureau, Mekelle University, and health partners. The workshop, organized as part of the CBMP – Capacity Building and Mentorship Program in Ethiopia , focused on discussing the results of a health information systems (HIS) baseline assessment and strengthening partnerships to address the challenges in the region.
Dr. Abraha Gebregziabher from Mekelle University emphasized the importance of quality data for decision-making and improved health outcomes. Mr. Measho Gebreslassie, CBMPโs Training and Mentorship Coordinator, presented the HIS baseline assessment, highlighting the impact of the conflict on Tigrayโs HIS infrastructure and stressing the need for collaborative efforts to rebuild and strengthen the system.
A panel discussion followed, with participants offering valuable insights and recommendations. Prof. Haftu Berhe, from Mekelle University, closed the workshop by emphasizing the need for strengthened collaboration and resource mobilization to advance HIS initiatives and improve data quality for decision-making.
