The three-day training workshop organized by Haramaya University’s CBMP aimed at enhancing the capacity of the staff at Jenela Health Center, comprising 60 staff members, to effectively adopt and utilize an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system. The training covered essential aspects such as navigating the EMR interface, logging in, and utilizing core functionalities including patient registration, record updates, and appointment scheduling.
Emphasis was placed on accurate data entry and management practices to ensure data quality and consistency while adhering to data privacy regulations. Participants learned how to streamline workflows across departments such as pharmacy, outpatient services, and finance, enabling seamless communication and coordination. Additionally, the training included practical sessions on troubleshooting common technical issues and guidelines for escalating complex problems to IT support.
The workshop also addressed the cultural and operational shifts required for EMR adoption, empowering participants to act as advocates for the system within their departments. As a result, participants demonstrated proficiency in basic EMR tasks, while enhanced collaboration among departments was evident. Improved awareness of data privacy and ethical practices was a significant outcome, along with the identification of health workers who will serve as champions for the implementation process.
A comprehensive discussion outlined the steps for transitioning to a fully functional EMR system, including follow-up training sessions, IT support schedules, and periodic evaluations. This training represents a significant milestone in Jenela Health Center’s journey toward modernized healthcare delivery, ensuring improved patient care and operational efficiency.
